7.2.10

They're walking on sunshine!!! Well, that's what it looked like early this am as the almost officers put foot to pavement to honor fallen officers. We arrived at the Academy at 5 am this morning to an already established group of cadets fans. The only light from street lights, cars and the constant flashes from cameras. Families with babies and children wrapped in woobies and holding homemade signs eagerly awaited the parade of triumphant cadets. We were ushered closer to the entrance of the Academy, where the junior nastys lined the street with their flashlights on. When it was time the juniors got down in push up position and remained that way until the entire entourage passed. We could here the Senior Cadets' loud cadences before we actually saw them. As the cadets ran down the well lit path it looked like they were running on sunshine...what a cool site. It was hard to tell the cadets apart as they are all dressed the same and all have the same fuzz head hair cut. Ryan waved to us so that we could see where he was - which I barely caught with the amateur video that I took. We then jumped in the car and followed the cadets on their 6 mile run to the Capital building located in downtown Sacramento. There the cadets gathered round an existing memorial for those killed in the line of duty and were addressed by their Captain. We were able to take a few pics and say hi and then they were gone. What a great experience!
I did my best with the camera, however the lack of light made it difficult to get great pics early this am.
Most recently Ryan was issued his badge number and finished all of his tests last week! He passed his Spanish fluency test with a 94% making him eligible to teach Spanish at the Academy. The cadets had their last PT session last Friday and a few cadets were invited one at a time to lead in any exercise of their choosing. Ryan was invited last and after running to the stage like a gazelle he led them in modified toe touches. Imagine touching your toes with your legs extended out in front of you and jumping while you switched legs - quite a funny site. The staff officers and cadets were laughing as Ryan led them in this ridiculous Jane Fonda excercise.
Yesterday it was the Senior cadets turn to roast the junior nastys in PT. They the tortured the cadets as they had been and then took them on a short run. During the run they stopped and talked to the cadets to enccourage them and help them. Ryan remembers this from when he was a junior cadet and said that it really help to have any advice from the Seniors. Last night was Ryan's last night sleeping at the Academy. He will be at home at night for the rest of the week, although he must return to the Academy by 6 am, it is worth it to be at home...Roommate upgrade! Ryan came home last night with all of his unifforms - he is making us wait until Friday to see him in it, so all I was able to get was him holding them up.
Today was the Capital run followed by a few classes, graduation practice and then a class party tonight with spouses. Tomorrow Ryan and I have a meeting at the Academy to discuss the realities of having an officer as a husband. It is a panel to advise us of all resources and to answer all questions.
Ryan is off after that and may even move his stuff out! Thursday afternoon and evening is party prep and fun! Friday is all fun!!
I will send a final email with graduation pics and video.
Love,
Amy
