5.18.10

Dear Everyone,

Week 19 delivered it licks, but our Cadet Timex keeps on tickin! Two minutes: thirty seconds of boxing, five seconds of tasing and an eight hour test sum up the previous week.

2 minutes, 30 seconds of boxing was enough for our cadet to truly appreciate the difficulty and intensity that makes a good fighter. I found this quote by Sugar Ray Leonard: Boxing was not something I truly enjoyed. Like a lot of things in life, when you put the gloves on, it's better to give than to receive. I think our cadet would agree and from the picture you can see that he did receive...you should see the other guy. Ha Ha!
5 seconds of being tased has yet to leave Ryan's immediate memory nor do I think it will for some time. The picture is of a burn mark from one of the clips that was put on his shirt -ouch! The other clip was on his calf, but only left a welt that quickly healed.

The cadets had a final on Accident Investigation that lasted for 8 hours on Friday. Ryan felt good about his performance and said that the day and the test actually went rather quickly. He is awaiting the results this week.

Ok, Ok the news that we have all been waiting for has finally arrived early this morning, Ryan has been assigned to San Jose. That is where our story began and so we will begin a new chapter from the same place. The openings extended from Central LA up to San Francisco, including a few, very random, undesirable places. I am happy that we were not placed in such undesirable locations.
If anyone is still reading after that news here is a bit more on our cadet...

14.7...is the magic number for our cadet to be removed from the diet table. That is Ryan's current body fat %. Today was the first day of unrestricted eating and better than that he did not have to write a memo on what he ate today. The cadets physical abilities were tested again yesterday for the last time - Ryan was much improved. Depending on how well you perform you earn points which determine your rank for PT. Ryan was able to move up 9 positions, Hollar! The points and rank go towards your badge number. A desired badge number is the lowest - Ryan will be happy with A badge period!

Since the beginning of PT it was only a select few that were able to wear the official PT shirt, the rest have been slumming it in a white T-shirt,which is known as a marshmallow shirt - representing their physique. Over the weeks cadets have earned their shirts back, Ryan is still waiting to have this privilege restored and I am hoping for sooner rather than later. When the Senior cadets get their assignments they put them on the back of their PT shirts instead of their names - kinda cool.

Here we go yo! - Scenarios are what the cadets are currently learning and stressing over. Scenarios include: domestic violence, burglary, suspicious character, getting a pedestrian off of the highway and many more. The cadets will be tested next Monday following a very busy weeked with a ride along. Ryan will ride along this weekend with a CHP Officer on his regular shift of 6 am to 6 pm and then write a report on what took place. This is exciting, but the heat is really on right now to learn soo much and then quickly turn around test on it. Ryan is maintaining a cool head and continues to maximize his time.

From now on each morning the cadets have graduation practice in place of their drill - exciting!
Love,
Amy
